"Following up the acclaimed debut album ‘Aurora’ from last year, with the new EP called Eggegrund. Recorded in a crumbling lighthouse on the remote Swedish island of Eggegrund, just off their home city of Gavle, in eastern Sweden. The island is renowned for its fishing cabins and firehouses from a bygone age. Its influence has infused with the oscillating boy/girl interaction of David Lehnberg and Elin Lindfors spins an evocative web for their glitch-laden electronic backing".
It`s strange that a more recent project from Elin Lindfors is responsible for me to relight my affection for `The Deer Tracks`. A year later and some well deserved success with Twiggy Frostbite , the voice still refreshingly haunting, lovingly draped over layers of expressive instrumentation and twinkling audio. Beautiful new age, country pop for emotional hard times.
Three fired up and focused ladies, heavily armed with a finely tuned ear for lush indie-pop and a melodic based guitar stance. Whimsical power-pop is brushed aside to expose an amazing attitude to delicious song craft without having to compensate for any current trendy short comings. Austin TX seems to be directly responsible for this very talented progressive trio with bringing together individual influences, ideals and musical tastes.
"Tribella are Sarah Glynn (lead singer and guitar), Rae Golding (bass) and Dena Gerbrecht (drums/backing vocals). Combining the trio’s dynamic musicianship with emotionally charged lyrics, the songs on Tribella’s album are named after time signatures (13 is from the track’s unusual meter 13/8) and chord structures (CSUS4 for one of the prominent chords within the progression). While their influences range from 80`s pop to traditional jazz, they consistently evoke a nostalgia for 90’s alternative rock bands like Belly, Liz Phair and Jane’s Addiction, their infusion of elaborate melodies and syncopated rhythms – bring to mind progressive bands like Yes, Rush and Muse". The Society Of Rockets announce release date for double-length, 180g white vinyl.
"America is still number one in space and time exploration now that San Francisco’s The Society of Rockets has its fourth album, “Future Factory.” The band’s singer and cosmonaut leader, Joshua Babcock has proclaimed the 21-track psych-pop album as being “designed to function as an hour-long sonic map of utopias that never were and have yet to be".
"On March 23rd 2010, The New Slave will release the first single off of their upcoming album `Forget Progress, Return to Instinct`. The single `1975` will feature two mixes of the lead track, the first mix is by Chris Cline (credits include ...Trail of Dead, Explosions in the Sky, and Scrabbel among others), followed by the album version. There will also be two non-album b-sides: `Hex` and `Trigger Happy`.
"Two bands, a fine selection of very cool DJ sets and a couple of lovely vinyl divas. All for the cost of a fizzy beer at your local. It's official, Barbequtie are presenting some seriously popular nights in North London this side of 1968."
"While McGraw might describe his music in terms that deem him an outsider, his single `Hungry Heart` from his latest album `Burying The Dead` is actually quite accessible amid its dark and gruff overtones. A great melody and an urgent vocal can’t be denied no matter how `anti` McGraw may claim to be".
"Filled with raw emotion and wistful reflection, the record hints liberally at Sarah’s stated influences which are rare for a singer-songwriter Dusty Springfield, Sam Cooke, Judy Garland, and Edith Piaf. The record is an unusual acoustic blend of 60‘s-inspired pop, fresh folk and classical motifs wrapped around Sarah’s deep, pure vocals and emotionally rich, informed lyrics".
An Irishman in California, I can`t blame Marc Carroll for basing himself in more pleasing climates than his native Dublin. A superbly shot video for the latest release `What`s Left Of My Heart`. The vibrant colour is fantastically captured, a warming LA voyeuristic landscape with Marc`s moody composition playing the title theme. I get the impression the fourth album is running up to a huge promotional push. `Dust Of Rumour` is available in all audio formats along with this established songwriter`s extensive back catalogue. A wonderful voice with charm and sincerity.
